Kayvan Karim is an Assistant Professor at the School of Mathematics and Computer Science at HeriotWatt University Dubai, where he also serves as Programme Director for MSc Software Engineering and MSc IT Software Systems. He is an AI researcher, software architect, and technology leader with over 20 years of experience spanning software engineering, artificial intelligence, large language models, agentic AI, and cybersecurity. He has co-founded multiple startups and brings extensive industry experience, including a decadelong collaboration with one of the UAE’s leading agricultural companies, Mirak, where he led the development of a custom-built ERP solution tailored to large-scale agricultural operations. With a strong background in both academia and industry, he has developed scalable AI systems and cloud-based enterprise software solutions, effectively bridging advanced research and real-world applications. His research focuses on the application of Natural Language Processing (NLP), large language models, and agentic AI systems in areas such as network security. Kayvan holds an MSc in Software Engineering and is currently completing his PhD in Computer Science. Passionate about software engineering, deep learning, and emerging technologies, he actively shares insights on programming, enterprise systems, and AI through his writing and research, contributing to both academic and industrial innovation.
